Meral Akşener (born 1956) is a Turkish former Minister of the Interior.
Akşener was born in İzmit in 1956 and she was educated at Istanbul University. Her post graduate work was at Marmara University Social Sciences Institution. She then worked on the faculties of a number of universities before entering politics.
She has been Minister of the Interior in 1996 as a result of the Susurluk scandal replacing Mehmet Agar.
